Preschool Homeschool Student and Teacher Unit

Kylie and I have made it week 30!  Check out some photos from our last week of preschool!
This week was spent learning about what students and teachers do in the community.  Our dramatic play lesson was a big hit.  Kylie loved playing teacher at Stuffy School!
Our math lessons this week were spent learning about standard and non standard measurement.  If you have Netflix, there is a great episode of the PBS show Sid The Science Kid that discusses non standard measurement.  It is called "The Whale Episode."
I am blown away by the improvement in Kylie's handwriting in the past few months!
I'm also amazed by her scissor skills!  My kids are OBSESSED with public transit, so I printed out an extra for Porter to do.
This science experiment almost didn't happen since the weather was lousy all week.  But alas, the clouds broke and the sun came out on Friday!  These "guess what will happen" activities are always fun in our house.  We chose chocolate chips, butter, an elephant, and cashews and guessed which would melt in the sun.  We checked a few hours later, and found this!  I think a sneaky squirrel grabbed the cashews, but Kylie is convinced the sun melted them into nothing!
And then this happened!  My baby girl is a preschool graduate!!! We have had so much fun over the past year learning about countries, environments, and community helpers.  Thank you so much for following along on our preschool homeschool adventure!  If you have any questions about our curriculum, please feel free to email me or check out our website for more information.

Preschool Homeschool Forest Ranger Unit

Last week, Kylie and I learned a very important member of our community - a forest ranger!
Here are some highlights from our week.
Two things that I really love (that are not my family of course!) are food and nature.  Growing up in New Hampshire, I was surrounded mountains and lakes.  My weekends were spent canoeing and fishing when I was younger.  As I got older, my interests grew to hiking, snowboarding, and rock climbing.  Kylie's National Parks passport already has stamps from The Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, Yellow Stone, and Mount St. Helens!  These vocab cards were a great conversation starter!  We looked at pictures from our family vacations to Yosemite and Yellowstone, and we also looked at pictures National Parks my husband and I went to in Iceland.
These funny phrase cards are a house favorite!  Try asking your little one what they think is going on in each picture.  Why is the fox in the box?  Maybe there is a snack in there!  What did Mom won?  A trophy?  A pickle?  You will be surprised by what your little one will think of!
Sight word search, tracing, and coloring!  This language worksheet has it all!
Tracing, matching, and more coloring!
During Kylie's art block, she made a shade and tint of green triangle forest!  It was very exciting to see what the colors "magically" turned in to.
Introducing was...difficult.  But I think (hope!) she was picking up on it by the end of the week.
"Don't forget to put your fire out Mr. Elephant." said Ranger Kylie as she played during our dramatic play block.

There you have it!  29 weeks down, and 1 (sniff sniff) week to go until my little girl is a Home CEO Academy graduate!   Check out our website for more information on our preschool homeschool curriculum packages for 2-3 year olds and 4 year olds.

Preschool Homeschool Beach Unit

Its summer time!  Time for tank tops, grilling, and...the beach!  Our "At The Beach" unit is our seasonal bonus lesson for the summer.  Check out some highlights from our week!
Confession time...We lived in Los Angeles for 7 years and I can count on my left hand how many times we actually went to the beach.  We are mountain people!  This anchor chart was a great way to prime my little beach novice.
Porter looks forward to these playdough mats every week!
We <3 Pete The Cat books in our house!
I'm 34 and I learned some new things from this sun fact activity!
***fun tip*** The band They Might Be Giants has a children's album called "Here Comes Science" and they have a song about the sun.  Play it while you are doing this activity!
Porter made a tactile star fish during our art period!
On this worksheet, Porter pointed the kids that were dressed for the beach and the items that were not meant for the beach.  A great extension activity for this would be put clothes or outdoor gear on the floor and ask your little one to "Get dressed for the beach" or "Find 2 things you would NOT wear to the beach."
Tangrams...our current obsession!  Our tangram worksheets come with the pieces you can print at home, or you can easily find a cheap set like these on Amazon.
At The Beach is one of our 8 seasonal units that are blended into our 2-3 year old curriculum.  It isn't assigned to a special week, so you are free to do it at any point over the summer! Check out our website for more information on our full year curriculum packages.
