Preschool Homeschool Doctor Unit

We kicked off the third semester this week!  Over the next 9 weeks, Kylie (and I!) will be exploring our community.  Each week, we will be focusing on a different member of our community.  This week we learned about doctors!
We started our week by looking at some wonderful vocab cards.
During one of our math wake up, warm up activities, Kylie practiced subtraction with bandaids.
Our new, semester long game "The Keys To Reading Town" will take place in our wake up, warm up language lessons.  Your little learner will be focusing on a different set of CVC words each week.  They will be matching the pictures to the words, and building the words with a movable alphabet!
Kylie is also studying sight words now!
This week was an encouragement elves week.  We opted out since our house was flu ridden and didn't want to risk passing any germs on :/  Encouragement elves is our monthly service project for your little ones.  They make a little craft, this month was a colorful candy jar, and give them to someone (the mail carrier, the cashier at the grocery store, etc.) as a way of saying "Thanks for doing what you are doing."  Pictured above, Kylie learned about subtraction using a number line.
Since our house was full of sick people all week, we practiced the hand washing gross motor action card a lot.  And I mean A LOT!
Kylie loves dramatic play.  Our downstairs rotates between a famers market, a bakery, and a restaurant.  So playing "doctor's office" was a nice respite for me!

I hope you enjoyed a little peak into our little preschool at home classroom.  This unit can be purchased as stand alone lesson here, or as part of a 30 week bundle here.  Join us next week when we learn all about dentists!

Preschool Homeschool Purple Unit

Its purple week!  Purple is week 6 in our 45 week preschool homeschool program for 2 and 3 year olds.  Want to find out more about our program?  Click here!
Here is a little Home CEO Academy behind the scenes shot.  This is what my bedroom floor looks like on a Sunday night.
Where have lapbooks been all my life?!?!? I mean seriously, these are only 2 of the 4 pages and I'm in love!
Our purple shelf!
Our cutting practicing turned into a frustrated ripping session because his hands are too small for the scissors :/
Flower making was a lot more well received!   Right as I was getting Porter all excited to make flowers, I realized we didn't have any tissue paper.  Then I realized we didn't have any purple construction paper.  Then I remembered the venn diagram playdoh mat we were using earlier and "mixed" red and blue paper.  Porter loved it!  Moral of the story ladies and gentlemen, the kids don't care if the activity does not go exactly how you wanted it to go; they just want to be with you.
Speaking of that venn diagram playdoh mat, we also made grapes, counted grapes, and squished lots and lot of grapes!
Mind=blown.  He should be smarter than me in a few years at the rate he is going.
We went back to our household object flash cards this week.  I put some tape on the back and had Porter walk around and stick them to the correct item.
I loved this book as a child, and I think I love it even more now!

This week, though no pictured, we snacked on figs, practiced zipping, and wanted no business with our letter sounds tubs.  Better luck next week! Now is a great time to start your homeschool journey.  Check out our website for more information on our curriculum packages for 2-3 year olds here.

Preschool Homeschool Orange Unit

Orange week (and the first half of our first quarter!) flew by.  Here are some highlights from our week.
If you want to join in the fun, click here to learn all about our 45 week preschool curriculum for 2-3 year olds.
Our theme board for the week!
These food flashcards are our favorite set!  Ask you little one to sort them by meals, by type of food, or go on a scavenger hunt at the grocery store!
Like I said last week, I had no idea how many different versions of the same color there were until I had kids.
::Channeling my best impression of Anger from Inside Out:: WHY DO I NEED 5 DIFFERENT ORANGES?!?! WHATS WRONG WITH PLAIN ORANGE!?!?!?!
Coming from a non sporty family, I was fairly surprised when Porter just put this together!
The sensory activity for this week was mess free paint mixing!  I would suggest adding some duct tape to the top of the bag just so nothing leaks out ;)
We got this gem at the used book store right before we left Los Angeles.
We love playing this game, but we call it "which one of these doesn't belong" in our house.
This week, we focused on the number 5.
Roar!  These play-doh mats are always a hit!
Get outside with this gross motor activity!
Not too bad for 2 1/2, eh?  Be sure to have our alphabet poster available for your little one to reference!

I hope you enjoyed a peak into our preschool homeschool classroom (aka our dining room) as we learned all about orange.  Orange is week 5 in 45 week preschool homeschool curriculum for 2 and 3 year old that can be purchased here.  See you next week when explore purple!

Preschool Homeschool Valentines Day Unit

Hearts, cupcakes, and skip counting - oh my!  This week was all about Valentine's Day!
What's better than space math?  Cupcake math!!!
We cut, coloured, and addressed these valentines during one of our language blocks.  I was really hoping the tiny pink heart was for me, but Kylie informed me that was for Sky from Paw Patrol :(
These strip puzzles are a favorite in our house!
I was a little worried Kylie wouldn't "get" this activity.  But after reading Will You Fill My Bucket?  by Carol McCloud, she instantly "got" it!  I asked her what are some things she can do to make her brother happy and she told me "sharing." I asked what she can do for a person at swim lessons to make them feel happy and she said "hold the door." #proudmom
We took a more free form approach to the art project this week, but we still had loads of fun!
"This is like our Christmas around the world activity," Kylie said when I brought this out.
Nothing like a pudding parfait to brighten up a cold and snowy day and get us into the Valentine spirit!

Share the love...of learning this year with your little one! Our Valentine's day unit is 116 pages of fun and available a la carte here or it is part of our 30 week bundle for 4 year olds that is available here.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Homeschool Preschool Green Unit

Welcome to green week!  Porter and I took last week, the bonus penguins unit, off to plan and prep for February.  Its felt good to get back into the homeschooling groove with this guy!  For those new to the blog, I am in the process of reviewing our year homeschool preschool geared towards 2 and 3 year olds.  Hop over to our website to learn more.
"Look at all the green Mommy," Porter said when he woke up on Monday morning.  Our manipulatives shelf is a big hit.  Full disclosure, I do have to rebuild this a few times a day.  But it is totally worth it.
I had no idea how many different types of green there were until this week!
Admiring his theme board and green magnet collection.
Poking playdoh peas was a great segway into our...
 Letter sound tun P drawer!
I also did not remember how long Dr. Suess books were until this week!  I let Kylie take over reading duties for this one.
Our housewares flash cards made for a great scavenger hunt this week.
"Mommy, I made a turtle."  Porter went on to say for about an hour after he glued the last googly eye.
We spent the week talking about the number 4 and added a few new pages to our interactive math notebook.
We have been on a big dramatic play kick at our house, so this activity was a welcome change to playing bakery and restaurant.

I hope you enjoyed a little peak into our homeschool life in Toronto!  Its never too late to start your homeschool journey!  Check out our website for more information about our 45 week curriculum bundle for 2 and 3 year olds.  See next week when we learn about orange!
